Afrin residents reunite with their lands after 8 years

NEWS CENTER – Residents of Afrin who were forcibly displaced returned to their lands after eight years.
 
Within the framework of the January 29 agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Damascus Transitional government, the first group of families who were forcibly displaced from Afrin and had taken refuge in the Jazira Region returned to their lands.
 
The first group, consisting of 400 families, set off yesterday morning accompanied by Mahmud Xelil, commander of internal security forces in Hasakah, Nesrin Abdullah, commander of the Asayish forces, officials of the interim Damascus government responsible for monitoring migrants, and a group of internal security forces.
 
Traveling by cars and buses, the citizens reached Afrin in the early morning hours after passing through Raqqa, Tabqa, and Aleppo, accompanied by the Afrin–Shehla Migrants Council and Syrian Civil Defense teams.
 
After eight years of forced displacement, the citizens who reached their city were welcomed with drums, zurna, traditional dances and great enthusiasm.
 
Mahmud Xelil, who accompanied the citizens on the journey, stated that after the establishment of a safe corridor, the first group would depart within three days and that the remaining residents of Afrin would return by Newroz.
