ÊLIH - Mehmet Emin Cam, who was on the Human Rights Association’s (İHD) list of seriously ill prisoners, has been released from prison. Cam’s first words were: “All Kurds must unite.” 

 

Mehmet Emin Cam, who is on the Human Rights Association’s (İHD) list of seriously ill prisoners and whose requests for release were repeatedly rejected despite having suffered two heart attacks, was released today following his transfer to the ATK two days ago. Cam was released from Besiri T-Type Closed Prison in the evening. Politicians, his family and supporters greeted Cam outside the prison. The police did not allow the press to film outside the prison.  

 

'KURDS MUST UNITE'

 

Speaking briefly after his release, Cam said that the Kurdish people would not be defeated as long as they remained united amongst themselves.  Cam, who said that as long as unity among Kurds is not achieved, they will be defeated, said: “The four parts must never be separated. They must not make distinctions among themselves. A Kurd is a Kurd everywhere. There is no distinction between Syria, Iraq, Iran and Turkey. We are the same everywhere as a whole. Let us have unity and strengthen one another. May all Kurds be united.” 

 

Following the speech, Çam and his family set off for their home in Sêrt (Siirt).
