AMED – Members of the Free Women’s Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) have announced that they will be demanding the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan through the Gemlik March and have invited everyone to join the march.
TJA will organise a march to Gemlik on 19 April under the slogan “It is time for women, time to meet with freedom and a free Leader”, demanding the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. Ahead of the march, which is expected to bring together a thousand women, women in Kurdish cities will gather in Amed (Diyarbakır) on 18 April. Women gathering in the Rezan (Bağlar) district will be sent off en masse from there. The women have issued a call for participation in the upcoming Gemlik March.
TJA activist Bahar Duman, noting that preparations for Gemlik have been completed, emphasised the role of women. “This is not merely a march for the leader’s freedom. The leader’s freedom will bring freedom to all peoples. A free society can only be built by women’s hands,” she said.
Emine Kaya, noted that the march aims to raise social awareness: “Women and young people must take the lead in this march. Those in power must recognise the will demonstrated by women. Mr Öcalan’s role in the ongoing process is significant. If given the chance, wars will end and a path to a solution will open up.”
CALL TO JOIN THE MARCH
Saime Çiçek emphasised the importance of the march. Inviting everyone to the gathering in Rezan she said: “This march is an opportunity not to be missed; it is important for all peoples. Our people must come together and strongly voice the importance of Mr Öcalan’s freedom.”
Remziye Tek drew attention to the ongoing Peace and Democratic Society Process and said: “Fourteen months have passed since the Leader’s call, yet no response has been given to the Kurdish people’s demands. Thousands of women will march for the Leader’s freedom. The freedom of Kurdish women is tied to the Leader’s freedom.”
