İZMİR - Severely ill prisoner Abdülrezzak Şuyur in Şakran T Type Prison has died.
Abdülrezzak Şuyur, a 56-year-old seriously ill prisoner held in İzmir Aliağa Şakran T Type Prison, has died.
Şuyur, who was detained in Muğla in 1993, was tried for "membership in a terrorist organization" and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Şuyur, who was transferred to Şakran after Siirt and Antep prisons, was diagnosed with lung cancer 3 months ago. Şuyur, who also suffered from asthma, was not treated after he was diagnosed with cancer.
He last met with his son 2 weeks ago and no more news had been received from him since then.
His brother Muhsin Şuyur went to prison on Tuesday to visit Şuyur, who had not called for 2 weeks. The prison administration said that they would not be allowed to meet with him without giving any reason.
The prison administration, then, called Şuyur’s family one hour after his brother left the prison, to inform them that Şuyur had died. Şuyur's request for release last year was not accepted despite the fact that he had only 14 months left to serve.
CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION ABOUT HIS DEATH
According to the information received from Yunus Şuyur, Muhsin’s brother, a petition was given to continue his treatment outside one month ago. No response was given to the application. Stating that he had contacted his brother a month ago, Yunus Şuyur said: "We wonder how he got this worse in a month. We don't know if he had surgery or not. We hadn't heard from him for two weeks. He wasn't making weekly phone calls either. When did he actually die? What happened to him? There is contradictory information about the situation."
His family, who set out from Istanbul and Siirt, went to Izmir to take Şuyur's body.
Şuyur will be buried in the Eruh district of Siirt after legal proceedings.
