NEWS CENTER - Birsen Kars who survived the operation called 'Return to Life' carried out in multiple prisons to stop the hunger strikes, lost her life in Germany where she was recieving cancer treatment.
Birsen Kars who survived the massacre carried out in prisons against prisoners on hunger strike on December 19, 2000 heavily injured, lost her life. Halkın Sesi TV announced that Kars, who had been recieving cancer treatment in Stuttgart, Germany for years, passed away.
Kars, who was detained during a demonstration while she was an Industrial Engineering student at Istanbul University, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for "being a member of a terrorist organization". Kars told the journalist 'There were 6 women in my ward. They burned us alive' while she was being taken to hospital with an ambulance. She was later diagnosed with cancer due to the chemicals she was exposed to.
Kars was burned into the memories with her words, 'they burned us alive' during the 19-22 December Massacre. Her face, hands and back was burned with chemicals as a result of the chemicals used by the Turkish soldiers during the intervention on the prison.
