Politicians punished in Kobanê Case

ANKARA - Politicians were punished in the Kobanê Case heard yesterday. Figen Yüksekdağ was sentenced to 30 years and 3 months in prison, and Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to 42 years in prison. A release order was issued for 5 politicians.
 
The decision of the case filed against 108 politicians, 18 of whom are prisoner, including former Co-Chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, citing the protest actions that took place between 6-8 October 2014 against ISIS's attacks on Kobanê. The hearing was held yesterday. Kurdish politicians were punished at the hearing held at the Sincan Prison Campus.
 
The decision announced by the court was protested with slogans and applause.
 
The court decisions are as follows:
 
  • Ahmet Türk: Sentenced to 10 years in prison for "membership in a terrorist organization"
 
  • Ali Ürküt: Aggravated life detention sentence was reduced to 16 years in prison. His sentence was reduced to 13 years and 4 months due to his attitude during the trial process. It was decided to continue his detention.
 
  • Alp Altınörs: He was sentenced to 18 years in prison on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". No discretionary deduction was made. It was decided to continue his detention. He was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison on the charge of "incitement to commit a crime".
 
  • Altan Tan: It was decided to acquit him under CMK 223.
 
  • Ayhan Bilgen: It was decided to acquit him separately on count 302 and "membership in a terrorist organization".
 
  • Ayla Akat Ata: She was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison on the grounds of "membership in a terrorist organization". She was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison with increases and reductions. Considering her state of detention, it was decided to release her.
 
  • Aynur Aşan: He was sentenced to 9 years on the grounds of "membership of a terrorist organization". It was decided to continue his detention on the grounds of suspicion of escape.
 
  • Aysel Tuğluk: It was decided to acquit her on the charge of "disrupting the unity of the state and the integrity of the country".
 
  • Ayşe Yağcı: He was sentenced to 9 years on the grounds of "membership of a terrorist organization". It was decided to release him, taking into account his state of detention.
 
  • Bülent Parmaksız: He was sentenced to 16 years. No discount was given. It was decided to continue his detention. He was sentenced to 2 years on the grounds of "incitement to commit a crime". The sentence in question was increased to 4 years and 6 months.
 
  • Dilek Yağlı: She was sentenced to 16 years. He was given 2 years for "inciting to commit a crime". The sentence was increased to 4 years and 6 months. It was decided to continue his detention.
 
  • Emine Ayna: She was acquitted on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state" and sentenced to 10 years in prison for "membership in a terrorist organisation".
 
  • Beyza Üstün: An acquittal was given on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". It was decided to abolish judicial control measures.
 
  • Figen Yüksekdağ: She was sentenced to 19 years in prison, but no reduction was made. It was decided to continue her detention. No punishment was given for the allegations of "being a member of a terrorist organization and managing a terrorist organization". She was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months on the allegation of "provocation". She was sentenced to 2 years for "participating in illegal meetings and demonstrations" and 1 year and 6 months for "propaganda for a terrorist organization". She was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months for another speech she made at Mehmet Tunç's funeral, and 3 months for "acting against election bans". She was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months for a speech she made in Wan. She was sentenced to a total of 30 years and 3 months in prison. No evacuation order was made.
 
  • Gülfer Akkaya: An acquittal was given on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". Judicial control measures were abolished.
 
  • Gültan Kışanak: An acquittal decision was made on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". She was sentenced to 8 years in prison on the grounds of "membership in a terrorist organization". The sentence was increased by half to 12 years. A release order was issued for her.
 
  • Günay Kubilay: It was decided to receive a 16-year prison sentence and continue detention. She was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison on the charge of "incitement to commit a crime".
 
  • İsmail Şengül: She was sentenced to 16 years in prison. No discount was given. It was decided to continue his detention.
 
  • İbrahim Binici: A decision of acquittal was given.
 
  • Meryem Adıbelli: She was sentenced to 9 years in prison. A release order was issued for her.
 
  • Mesut Bağcık: He was sentenced to 9 years in prison. It was decided to abolish judicial control measures.
 
  • Nazmi Gür: Aggravated life detention was given and the sentence was reduced to 18 years in prison. He was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison on the charge of "incitement to commit a crime".
 
  • Nezir Çakan: He was sentenced to 9 years in prison on the charge of "membership in a terrorist organization".
 
  • Pervin Oduncu: Aggravated life detention was given and the sentence was reduced to 18 years in prison. It was decided to continue her detention.
 
  • Sebahat Tuncel: She was sentenced to 8 years on the allegation of "membership in a terrorist organization". The sentence was increased to 12 years. Considering the detention period, it was decided to release her.
 
  • Selahattin Demirtaş: He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for "aiding the unity and integrity of the state" and 4 years and 6 months in prison for "incitement to commit a crime". He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months for the speech he made at the Newroz event. He was sentenced to 1 year 6 months, 2 years 30 months, 3 years, 1 year 6 months, 1 year, 1 year 6 months and 2 years on the charge of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization", citing his statements on different dates. The total sentence given to Demirtaş is 42 years. It was decided to continue his detention.
 
  • Sibel Akdeniz: A decision of acquittal was given.
 
  • Sırrı Süreyya Önder: He was acquitted of all allegations against him.
 
  • Zeki Çelik: He was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". The sentence in question was reduced to 18 years due to "assistance". It was decided to wait for the arrest warrant to be executed. He was also sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison on the charge of "incitement to crime".
 
  • Zeynep Karaman: Life sentence on the charge of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state", this sentence was reduced to 18 years on the grounds of "aiding". She was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison on the grounds of "incitement to crime". 
 
  • Zeynep Ölbeci: She was sentenced to a total of 12 years and 9 months in prison on charges of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the country" and "membership of a terrorist organization". It was decided to continue her detention.
 
36 people were acquitted as they were not found responsible for the deaths during the protests in various cities. The court decided to separate the files of the remaining names whose defense statements were not taken.

A release decision has been issued for Gültan Kışanak, Sabahat Tuncel, Ayla Akat, Ayşe Yağcı and Meryem Adıbelli, who were prisoner in the Kobanê Case.
