DİYARBAKIR - DFG and MKGP launched the “One More Story From You” campaign in solidarity with imprisoned journalists.

 

Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform (MKGP) launched the "Bir Haber De Senden" (One More Story From You) campaign in solidarity with the Mezopotamya Agency (MA) and JINNEWS reporters who were arrested after being detained as part of the Ankara-based investigation. In the statement made in front of the DFG's building in Diyarbakır Yenişehir district, photographs of imprisoned journalists and a banner written "Free press does not bow down" were unfurled. Provincial and district organization executives of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and Democratic Regions' Party (DBP) participated in the action, as well as many journalists. In the statement, the slogans "Amed don't sleep, protect the free press", "Free press cannot be silenced" and "Biji chameniya azad" were shouted. The Turkish text of the statement was read by DFG Co-chair Dicle Müftüoğlu, and the Kurdish version by MKGP spokesperson Roza Metina.

 

'WE ARE HERE, YOU'RE A GONER'

 

Emphasizing that the first target of all governments is the free press, Müftüoğlu said, “Our newspaper buildings were bombed, our reporters were killed and imprisoned, but the Kurdish press never took a step back. On the contrary, they pursued the truth and exposed the dirty tricks of the governments. The efforts to supress us are futile, you will be the ones who will be hurt by your own lawlessness and oppression. We existed, we will exist and we are here under all conditions. However, you are the goner."

 

CALL TO JOURNALISTS, WRITERS, INTELLECTUALS..

 

Calling on journalists, writers, intellectuals and professional press organizations, Müftüoğlu continued: “We know by experience that those who remain silent in the face of the oppression we are subjected to, will be subjected to the same oppression soon. We can take back what they took from us. We have this power, as long as we stick together and fight. That's why we say: Words are over, it's time for action. We want to announce that we started a campaign here. You can show solidarity with the news stories and articles you send out of spite against those who attack the Kurdish press, to the Mesopotamia Agency and JINNEWS. We invite all our colleagues to the 'Bir Haber De Senden' campaign; Your news and articles will add strength, it will break the shackles of the press.”
