Women held in handcuffs for 36 hours, tortured by Ankara police

ANKARA -  Women detained in different cities as part of the investigation against TJA activists were brought to Ankara after being held in handcuffs for 36 hours.
 
It was learned that 18 women detained in Diyarbakır, Istanbul, Izmir, Muş, Ağrı, Antep and Siirt as part of the investigation carried out against the Ankara-based Tevgera Jinên Azad (Free Women's Movement - TJA) activists were held in handcuffs for 36 hours until they were brought to Ankara.
 
THEY WERE DENIED FOOD AND WATER
 
The women, who met with their lawyers, stated that they were kept in handcuffs along the way, as well as being denied food and water. Women detained in Amed were kept in the bus for 9 hours. It was stated that the women were kept in handcuffs for 36 hours when they were brought to Ankara from the moment they were detained, and were not given food or water.
 
WOMEN'S HAIR WERE PULLED
 
It was learned that the police officers of the Ankara Police, handcuffed the women behind their backs. It was stated that Figen Ekti, who was detained in Diyarbakır, was beaten by 4 police officers in Ankara Police Department and her hair was pulled. Ekti picked up her hair, which was plucked during police torture, and handed it over to her lawyer. Lawyers will file a criminal complaint against police torture.
 
The names of the women being held in Ankara Security Directorate are as follows:  Figen Ekti, Mekiye Ormancı, Didar Çeşme, Zekiye Güler, Bedia Akkaya, Figen Aras, Sultan Esen, Hatice Güngör, Meral Şimşek, Zeynep Boğa, Pınar Ceylan, Yeliz Ayyıldız Kıyak, Hülya Kınağu, D.A., Merve Tekin Demirel, Hazal Aras, Aysel Ceylan ve Beritan Canyaş.
