ISTANBUL -The Colleagues of TTB Central Council President Şebnem Korur Fincancı, who was arrested as a target by the government, came together in front of the Istanbul Courthouse before her trial and demanded her acquittal.

 

Turkish Medical Association (TTB) made a statement before Fincancı's hearing about President of the Central Council Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur, who was arrested on charges of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization" due to her statements about the use of chemical weapons in the attacks against Zap, Avaşîn and Metina in the Federated Kurdistan Region and for the statements she used to have it examined by an independent committee. Many people gathered in front of the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan, where the case will be held.

 

INTENSIVE PARTICIPATION

 

Before the announcement, the front of the courthouse and its surroundings were besieged with a large number of police and detention vehicles. Many lawyers, artists, politicians, women, representatives of non-governmental professional organizations and representatives of international institutions participated in the action led by healthcare professionals. The slogans of "Şebnem is our honor", "Long live our organised struggle", "TTB has not been silent, it will not be silent" were shouted, and the banners of "Freedom to Şebnem", "We will fight for the truth" and "You cannot obscure the truth" were carried.

 

THE ACQUISITION OF FINCANCI IS DEMANDED

 

TTB 2nd President Ali İhsan Ökten read the press text they prepared. Stating that Ficancı was arrested without any legal basis, Ökten said: "We hope that this process, which is carried out with purely political goals and clear unlawfulness, will come to an end today. We are here with the organizational integrity of the TTB and our medical chambers, and we await the immediate release of Şebnem Korur Fincancı and her acquittal at the first hearing by dropping the charges against her.”

 

The demonstration ended with the slogan of "Şebnem teacher is our honor". The crowd entered the Istanbul Courthouse to follow the trial.
