MARDİN - Video footage revealed that two people, on of whom is a child was battered by the special operations police for wearing traditional Kurdish clothes on the New Year's Eve. The two people filed a complaint against the police who battered them.
It was revealed that 16-year-old B.K and 18-year-old Hüseyin Gökalp was battered by the special operations police while they were returning home from a wedding ceremony of their relatives on New Year's Eve, in Nusaybin, wearing traditional Kurdish clothes. The police violence was revealed because it was captured by a security camera of a shop.
THEIR HEADS WERE BANGED AGAINST ARMOURNED VEHICLE
In the footage it is seen that two teenagers were stopped by the police. Three special opereations police who stepped off the vehicle with long barrelled guns and started beating the teenagers. The police bangs the heads of the boys against the armoured vehicle, punching and kicking them at the same time. They were later dropped on the ground and kicked in the head. The teenagers were then held waiting faced to the armoured vehicle and then released after their ID cards were checked.
The teenagers applied to the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Mardin Branch after they found out that one of the shops there had a security camera. The teenagers applied to the Nusaybin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with the help of the lawyers.
BOYS FILED A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT
The teenagers filed a criminal complaint against the police on the charges of "hate and discrimination", "insult" and "threat" because they were battered for wearing local clothes. B.K.'s mother, Canan K., stated that she filed another criminal complaint because her son was beaten by the police.
ÖHD: AN INVESTIGATION WAS LAUNCHED
Stating that the what the police did was "degrading treatment and torture", underlined that the two boys were beaten because of their local clothes, which is a hate crime. Lawyers of the ÖHD told that an investigation was launched after they filed a criminal complaint.
