NEWS CENTER - In Afrin, under the control of Turkey and its affiliated paramilitary groups, women who are considered "spoils of war" after being detained are subjected to sexual torture and rape in the blacksites.

 

It's been 5 years since Turkey and its paramilitary forces attacked the Northern and Eastern Syrian city of Afrin. After the attacks that started on January 20, 2018 and continued until March 18, the city passed under the control of Turkey and paramilitary groups. In the five years that have passed, Afrin has been transformed into blacsite of torture and rape. According to ANHA, there are 26 blacksites in Afrin's districts and villages where 8,644 people are being held. In these centers, women are exposed to sexual violence and rape.

 

Some of the blacksites where women are subjected to sexual violence and rape are as follows:

 

* El Mehkemê Prison: It is located in the old courthouse. Women kidnapped from different districts of Afrin are held here. The prison is under the control of a group called Cebha El Şamiye.

 

* El Mehmudiye Prison: It is managed by the paramilitary structure called El Hemza. Dozens of abducted people are being held here. Women are kept in 2 "private rooms".

 

* Itîhad El Erebi School Prison: The prison located in the center of Afrin is under the control of Cebhe El Shamiyê. There is a special section for women.

 

* El Kerame School Prison: One of the oldest schools in Afrin. Managed by the paramilitary group Feyleq Al-Sham, this prison also has a women-only section.

 

* Former Legislative Assembly Prison: Located in the center of the city. It is known as the "Women's Prison". The abducted women are held in the basement of the building. Especially Kurds are kidnapped and brought to this prison by Turkish intelligence and paramilitary groups affiliated with Turkey. It is stated that 50 women are held in this prison. It is stated that the paramilitary forces controlling the prison describe women as "spoils of war".

 

96 WOMEN MURDERED

 

According to the data of the Syria-Afrin Human Rights Organization, at least 96 women were killed and 72 women were raped in the last 5 years.
