NEWS CENTER - The government of Damascus in Syria, hit by the earthquake, does not allow the aid to be sent to the earthquake victims.

 

Thousands of people lost their lives in the destruction experienced in many parts of Syria in the earthquake that took place on February 6 in the center of Maraş. More than 3,666 families from the devastated regions migrated to Shehba Canton; however, the Damascus government does not allow humanitarian aid to enter the canton.

 

DAMASCUS DOES NOT ALLOW

 

Speaking to Hawar News Agency (ANHA) on the subject, Afrin and Shehba Canton Council Co-chair Melek El Hisên stated that the Damascus government has imposed a heavy embargo in the region and said: “We control the entry of the necessary materials and aids provided by the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration and sent from other regions to the canton. It does not allow points.”

 

Noting that the Damascus government checkpoints allowed 100 tankers to enter the region after confiscating 60 fuel tankers, Hisen shared the information that 300 tents were set up in the region for earthquake victims, mainly in Serdem Camp and Aleppo.

 

EDUCATION CONTINUES IN TENTS

 

Noting that the Autonomous Administration is trying to meet their needs, Hisen said: “We distributed a large number of tents in our warehouses to them; however, the number was small. We are trying to lighten their load as much as we can. The People's Municipality distributed construction materials to the citizens whose houses were damaged due to the earthquake, the Autonomous Administration set up 50 tents for the continuation of educational activities in the schools that were badly damaged."

 

Hisên called on international organizations to provide more assistance to the region and the Damascus government to facilitate the passage of aid.
