URFA – The march of  "To Amara for Freedom", organized for the birthday of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, has started. Speaking at the march, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz said that April 4 is the day of the Kurdish people's rebirth.

 

A march on the occasion of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan's birthday started in the Amara neighborhood of Xelfeti (Halfeti) district of Riha with the slogan "To Amara for Freedom" under the leadership of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the Free Women's Movement (TJA), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Federation of Families of Detainees and Convicts Legal Solidarity (MED TUHAD FED), the birthday  of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan A march was organized in the Amara neighborhood of Xelfeti (Halfeti) district of Urfa with the slogan "To Amara for Freedom".

 

'WE CAME HERE DESPITE THE OBSTACLES'

 

Making a statement, DBP Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz said: "April 4 is a historic day for the Kurdish people. Dear mothers and our people, today is a historic day. We made a call with the slogan of "To Amara for Freedom". Heeding this call, thousands of people set out for Amara. Blockages were made in every province and district. Despite all the obstacles, thousands of people came here.”

 

'THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE TAKEN TO THE ROAD' 

 

Stating that we do not consider April 4 only as the day that Mr. Öcalan was born from his mother, Aydeniz said:  "The birthday is the day of the Kurdish people. 100 years ago, Lausanne and Kurds wanted to be erased from history. It was divided into 4 parts. The Kurds were asked to be Arabs, Persians and Turks, but April 4 is the date the Kurds were born again. That's why Kurds and millions of people with this belief consider April 4 as the day of democracy, honorable peace and struggle. There are those who want to prevent this historic day from celebrating the birthday of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdish freedom movement. Those who want to prevent those who believe in democracy and peace fear Mr. Öcalan's insistence on peace."

 

After the announcement, the crowd set out for Amara with a convoy.
