Green Left Party offers hope for women

ISTANBUL - Stating that the Green Left Party's Women's Election Declaration promises women a future, women in Istanbul said: "We call the Green Left Party to put a stop to this bad trend. Women will overthrow the AKP."

Political parties and alliances accelerated their work, while the May 14 elections, which will determine the future of Turkish society, are about a month away. At the forefront of the segments that will determine the outcome of the elections are women, who make up half of the population.

Women who attended the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) event in Istanbul's Ümraniye district spoke about the Women's Election Declaration of the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party).

THE GREEN LEFT PARTY PROMISES HOPE

Zekiye Ayık, one of the women, stated that she had read the women's declaration of the Green Left Party and that if it was implemented, it would solve many problems.  Ayık said: "It is very important for me that Pervin Buldan pointed out the Istanbul Convention. We will take back all our rights that have been taken away from us. Of course, the main power here is the struggle of women for their rights. In addition, it is important that women's poverty is included in the declaration and that the establishment of the infrastructure of the economy is mentioned."

Pointing out that elections are held in an environment where violence against women is increasing day by day, Ayık said: “When women are subjected to violence, they have to go back to their home where they were subjected to violence because they have nowhere to go. In the women's declaration, shelters for women who suffered violence were mentioned. These are important, but we want 'protection houses' for women instead of shelters. Women's labor should be employed in these places. The only thing promised by the 21-year AKP rule was repression. That's why we care about the Green Left Party and we will succeed."

WE WILL SUPPORT THE PARTY STANDING BY WOMEN'

Nabile Özgar (45), who started her speech and said: "The Green Left Party is the hope of women", wanted women to be represented more in politics. I will vote for the Green Left Party in the elections. The HDP or the Green Left Party always stands by women compared to other parties. By prioritizing women, it takes women as a basis in all areas and thinks about children. It especially prioritizes the free living of the mother tongue, culture and identity of all segments. We want the pressure on our mother tongue to be lifted because it is our language and culture that makes us exist. Kurds should now be on the side of the party that defends their rights. This party is the Green Left Party. We wish them success, we are behind them."

'FOR A FREE FUTURE'

Emine Ümek (27) stated the following regarding the women's declaration of the Green Left Party: “The declaration was like a rebellion for us women. Women have been oppressed under male domination for millennia. He is marginalized by ignoring his labor in all areas of society. In other words, our labor at home is ignored. The only party that makes our voices heard is the HDP and the Green Left Party. When we look at other alliances and parties, women are ignored, women have no voice. While femicides were increasing day by day, the AKP government kept questioning women's skirt length, what they were wearing, and their private lives instead of preventing violence. We are tired of women being discussed about their clothes and their lives. Whoever wants to live and wear what they want to wear. We want to be free. No one should see me differently because I wear a headscarf, or a woman should not be viewed differently because she wears a mini skirt. First of all, we are women. We want to live in a free country now. We do not accept the AKP's anti-women policies. Because the only thing they want to do is to imprison the woman in the house. The Green Left Party promises us women a free future. ”
