ÖHD Co-Chair Yeter: The struggle against isolation continues

DİYARBAKIR- Attorney Ekin Yeter, who was elected as the Co-Chair of the ÖHD, emphasized that the demands for the end of the isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan are legal, just and legitimate, and stated that they will continue their legal struggle against it.
 
The Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Headquarters held its 3rd Ordinary General Congress in Amed on April 8 with the slogan "We are lifting the isolation, we are building the liberal law". Ekin Yeter and Serhat Çakmak were elected as the Co-Presidents of the Association. While the lawyers present at the congress gave the message of lifting the absolute isolation on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, we talked to the newly elected Co-Chair Ekin Yeter about the congress process and the topics on their agenda.
 
IMRALI ISOLATION
 
Stating that the main agenda of the congress is to lift the isolation, Yeter said: “As ÖHD, we have been fighting on this issue for many years. In this context, we applied to the Ministry of Justice with the signatures of hundreds of our colleagues. We called for the end of the isolation by signing hundreds of our colleagues. Again, we applied to the European Union Committee of Ministers for Öcalan's right to hope. We treat this issue as the most fundamental problem of all human defenders rather than ourselves. This is a very serious problem. We define an isolation that started in İmralı and spread to the whole society. This is the situation we have been experiencing lately.” 
 
'ISOLATION MEANS WAR AND POVERTY'
 
Pointing out that the most severe isolation has been experienced in İmralı since 2019, Yeter said: "The right to freedom of communication such as any disciplinary action or transportation problems, such as meeting with family, lawyers and sending letters, should not be violated. Changing the law according to the political connector is an approach that causes torture. The isolation must be lifted and this is also a social demand because the polarizing language that is intended to be created in Turkey, the spread of the monist system, the othering, colonization, oppression, chemical weapons and annihilation policies towards the Kurdish people deepen the war and economic crisis. The purchasing power of the citizens is falling and they are condemned to poverty.”
 
'LIFTING OF THE INSOLATION IS A OBLIGATION'
 
Emphasizing that the exit from the crisis and chaos is possible with the removal of isolation, Yeter said: “Mr. Abdullah Öcalan presents solution arguments with his opinions, evaluations and suggestions. Lifting of the isolation is a legal, just and legitimate demand. The precondition for exiting the current situation is the lifting of the isolation on Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. This message was clearly revealed at our congress, and our struggle continues. International judicial mechanisms or the own legal system created by the states have similar characteristics. In the case of applying the existing legal procedure, the demand will be met."
