ISTANBUL- Seven of the 23 people detained in Istanbul and Eskişehir, including ESP Co-Chair Şahin Tümüklü, Green Left Party MP candidate Müslüm Koyun and ETHA editor Nadiye Gürbüz, were arrested.
As part of two separate investigations carried out by the Istanbul and Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, the police raided the homes of many people on April 30. 23 people, including the candidates of the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party), Istanbul candidate Burcu Ayyıldız, Eskişehir candidate Müslüm Koyun, İzmir candidate Meryem Yıldırım, Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) Co-Chair Şahin Tümüklü, Effective News Agency (ETHA) reporter Nadiye Gürbüz, Socialist Women's Councils (SKM) and Socialist Youth Associations Federation(SGDF) members, were detained.
CONDEMNING THE USE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS CRIME!
The detainees were transferred to the Istanbul and Eskişehir courthouses yesterday to take their statements at the prosecutor's office. The detainees in Istanbul were accused of the press statements they participated in, the political activities they carried out, and the statements and actions they made to condemn the massacre of HPG members as a result of chemical weapons used by Turkey in the attacks against Zap, Avaşîn and Metina. The lawyers said the investigations were based on condemning the use of chemical weapons.
Later, the prosecutor's office requested the arrest of 13 people and referred them to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace.
THE PRESIDENT, JOURNALIST AND PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE ARRESTED
The judge issued an arrest warrant for ESP Co-Chair Şahin Tümüklü, ETHA editor Nadiye Gürbüz, Kalender Polat, Sinem Çelebi, Adnan Özcan and Selvinaz Göçmez.
Similar charges were brought in the Eskişehir investigation. An arrest warrant was issued for Müslüm Koyun, a candidate for the Green Left Party Eskişehir Deputy, who was transferred from the prosecutor's office to the judgeship.
Other names were released with criminal practices in the form of judicial control and house arrest.
