ELIH- Sultan Acar, whose wife was murdered by Hizbulkontra in Êlih, said: "Today, they say 'we did not kill civilians at that time'. They both killed and disappeared. We will never forgive them."

The Hür Dava Party, which emerged as the political wing of Hizbullah, which is remembered for its hog ties, torture, attacks with cleavers and vitriol, is preparing for the elections in many centers with names that are tried in Hizbulkontra cases or who act as lawyers in these cases. The interest of the ruling media in the work of the party, which formed an alliance with the AKP-MHP in the May 14, 2023 elections and was declared to be a "state project", draws attention. The ruling media keeps on displaying the names nominated by the party, especially in Kurdistan, based on Kurdish identity and Kurdish propaganda.

The "interest" towards the Hür Dava Party from the ruling party is interpreted as efforts to make people forget the murders committed by Hizbulkontra in the cities of Kurdistan in the 90s. Families of those who lost their relatives in Êlih (Batman), where Hizbulkontro was active and massacred many people, shared their view.

HE WAS MURDERED 5 MINUTES BEFORE IFTAR

One of the names murdered by Hizbulkontra was Abdurrahman Acar. Abdurrahman Acar, the father of four children born in 1962, used the coffeehouse he ran in Êlih as the People's Labor Party (HEP) party headquarters. Acar, who was called "Bozo" because he was blonde, was murdered by an unidentified person among hundreds of people in the old Midyat Garage, 5 minutes before iftar, on March 23, 1993. Although 31 years have passed, the perpetrators have not been found, and Hizbulkontra's finger has often been pointed out in the incident.

'THEIR ONLY CRIME WAS THAT THEY WERE PATRIOTS'

Sultan Acar, who promised "I took over your flag of struggle, I will never give it up" at the grave of her murdered husband, has been actively working within Kurdish political parties since the incident. Acar, who is currently the Central District Co-chair of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), said that her husband was threatened many times in the 90s. Noting that her husband did not give in to the threats, Acar said: "Every time my husband came home, he would say that one of his friends or a tradesman had been murdered. They were not guilty of any sin. Their only crime was that they were patriotic people. They were Kurds. They loved Kurdistan. My husband was a very good person. Batman was being evacuated at that time. People were leaving and running away. I said to my husband, 'Let's go.' But he replied, 'Where would I leave Batman and go?'"

'WE DO NOT FORGIVE'

Emphasizing that the pain and anger of that day is still alive, Acar said: "Today they stand up and say 'we did not kill civilians at that time.' They both killed and disappeared. Thousands of our people are still missing right now. We will never forgive them. I myself would never forgive them. If I did, my child wouldn't, and if my son did, my grandson wouldn't."
Stating that her husband took over the flag of struggle, Acar said: "My son was going to school when my husband was martyred. At that time, I was afraid that they would murder my son, too. Because they did not even have mercy on children. They were killing young people. They were pouring acid on woman students because their arms were bare. From the 90s to the 95s, they turned Istanbul into hell. We went to my husband’s grave, they threw stones at us while we were passing by the mosque. They said, 'You are not Muslims.' They did not stop telling us just because my 10-year-old daughter was uncovered."

CALL FOR UNITY

Noting that there are multifaceted attacks against the Kurds, Acar said: "We want our people to be united. I do not want a return to the 90s. I do not want anyone's blood to be shed. Let's stand against them as a unit with a strong policy. After my husband was murdered, no one was arrested. In fact, in the past years, Erdogan had released the shooter. They have the blood of many of our friends on their hands. Today, they want to do something with the help of the Hür Dava Party. They will use them until their work is done with them. Because this is the purpose of the state system. When their work is done, they will confront them."
