ANKARA - DEM Party submitted a motion to the Parliament to declare April 28 as the "Day of Remembrance and Mourning for Those Who Lost Their Lives in Workplace Murders".

 

People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chairs Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli submitted a motion to the Presidency of the Parliament in order to raise awareness about workplace murders and commemorate those who lost their lives in workplace murders.

 

In the proposal "On Declaring April 28 as a Day of Remembrance and Mourning for Those Who Lost Their Lives in Occupational Homicides", data from the Occupational Health and Worker Safety Council (İSİG) was included. According to this shared data, at least 1730 workers in 2015, at least 1970 workers in 2016, at least 2006 workers in 2017, at least 1923 workers in 2018, at least 1736 workers in 2019, at least 2427 workers in 2020, at least 2170 workers in 2021, at least 1843 workers in 2022, at least 1,932 in 2023 workers lost their lives. In the first three months of 2024, 425 workers lost their lives.

 

In the motion, which stated that Turkey is the country with the highest number of worker murders in Europe, it was emphasized that it was necessary to remind and commemorate the workers who lost their lives in work murders before 1 May Worker's Day.
