NEWS CENTER - While Diyarbakır Governorship and the Ministry of Health showed the Amed-Mêrdîn fire as "husk burning", Vice Minister of Internal Affairs Münir Karaloğlu stated that they could not determine the cause of the fire.

There are conflicting statements from the relevant state authorities about the cause of the fire that broke out in the rural settlements between Amed and Mêrdîn and killed 13 people. While eyewitnesses of the incident explained that the incident was triggered by a spark on the electrical wires, Diyarbakır Governorship and the Ministry of Health cited "husk burning" as the cause of the fire. However, Vice Minister of Internal Affairs Münir Karaloğlu, who inspected the scene, denied the Ministry and the Diyarbakır Governorship.

DAMAGE DETECTION

Arguing that they intervened immediately after the fire started, Karaloğlu said that 556 sheep died in the fire, 8 thousand 100 decares of land were damaged in Amed, 1,450 decares of which were unmown, unharvested barley and wheat fields, and the remaining 6,550 decares were harvested.

He stated that it was a husk-shaped land. Stating that 7 thousand decares of land in Mêrdîn was affected by the fire, Karaloğlu stated that 4 thousand decares of it were unharvested fields and 3 thousand decares were harvested stubble.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Stating that the cause of the fire is being investigated by the prosecutor's office, Karaloğlu said: "Our Public Prosecutor's Office has now taken control of the cause of the fire. Gendarmerie crime scene investigation teams continue their investigations in the region. At the moment, we do not have a definitive determination that says 'the fire broke out due to this reason'. If our prosecutor's office completes this determination and completes its investigation, we will share this with you."
