COLEMÊRG - Although Reşat Özdil, who has been imprisoned for 30 years, has completed his execution, his release was postponed for the third time by the Administration and Observation Board because he refused to accept the "remorse" imposition.

Reşat Özdil is being held in Tekirdağ High Security Type F Closed Prison.  He was sentenced to life imprisonment by Diyarbakır State Security Court (DGM) after being detained in 1994 in Amed (Diyarbakır). During his imprisonment, prisoner Reşat Özdil was transferred to İskenderun, Amasya, Sincan and Tekirdağ prisons.

On 12 July 2024, the execution of Reşat Özdil was completed. Özdil was taken to the Administration and Observation Board and his release was postponed for 3 months because he did not accept the imposition of "remorse". Özdil was again taken to the board on 12 October 2024 and his release was postponed for 3 months for the second time, saying that he is "not ready to integrate with society".

On 12 January 2025, Özdil appeared before the board for the third time and was again asked the question "Do you regret?". Due to Özdil's objection, his release was postponed for another 6 months. Prisoner Reşat Özdil has been held in prison for 31 years.

In a phone call with his family, prisoner Reşat Özdil emphasised that he would never appear before the board again and that he would not submit to these policies. Noting that he has been in prison for 31 years, prisoner Özdil also stated that the Administration and Prison Observation Board has been turned into a torture center and called for public awareness.
