Condolence centres set up for Önder in many cities

NEWS CENTER - Condolences were held in many cities for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, member of the DEM Party İmralı Delegation, who lost his life. 

Condolences were held in many cities for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, member of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. Önder died on 3 May in the hospital where he was being treated in Istanbul. DEM Party provincial and district organisations made mass visits to the condolences. 
 
AMED
 
Hundreds of people visited the condolence centre set up at DEM Party Amed (Diyarbakır) Provincial Organisation. Members of the Amed Labour and Democracy Platform, former MPs, Peace Mothers and many representatives of civil society and democratic mass organisations visited the condolence. Speaking at the condolence, 
 
Amed Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Doğan Hatun said, "Our mothers should not lose hope. Thousands of our friends lost their lives for peace. This is a flag. They brought this flag here, this burden is now on our shoulders. We will not let that flag fall to the ground. We will carry the flag of peace that Sırrı brought forward. We will shoulder his burden, work harder and ensure peace between the peoples."
 
Serra Bucak, Co-Mayor of Amed Metropolitan Municipality, said, "Like all losses, it is an untimely loss. In this sense, we are all heartbroken. Sırrı Süreyya Önder has left an important value to the Kurdish people, the peoples of Turkey as well as to those who are struggling for democracy and human rights. This struggle will grow until peace comes to these lands. His memory will illuminate our path."

A condolence was held at the DEM Party Provincial Organisation building in Riha (Urfa). A banner with Önder's photograph was also hung on the building. Many people visited the condolence early in the morning. Condolence will continue until Wednesday,
 
ŞIRNEX
 
 
Condolence centres in Şirnex (Şırnak) and its districts were visited en masse. 80-year-old dengbêj Fadîle Aytiş attended the condolence in Silopi district. Fadîle Aytiş took Önder's photograph in her hand and lamented, touched the people at the condolence. Many people could not control their tears.
 
MÊRDÎN
 
 
The visits to the condolence organised yesterday at the DEM Party buildings in the districts of Mêrdîn (Mardin) continued today. In addition to citizens, CHP, DEVA Party, Felicity Party and IYI Party members visited the condolence at DEM Party Mêrdîn Provincial Organisation building. Those who attended the condolence expressed their feelings and thoughts about Önder and said that they were sad to lose an important figure in the struggle for peace. Condolences will be accepted tomorrow.
