ANKARA - Stating that the struggle against the Imrali isolation is at the center of the resistance, HDP Co-Chairperson Tayip Temel said: "We will mobilize all our strength to break the isolation."
From the intermittent phone call made on March 25, 2021 to PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who was held under severe isolation conditions in İmralı Type F High Security Prison, there has been no news to date. Visits of families and lawyers are either blocked on the grounds of "disciplinary" penalties or left unanswered. Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, Party Spokesperson Ebru Günay and Central Executive Board (MYK) member Ömer Öcalan applied to the Ministry of Justice with a request to hold a meeting in İmralı on October 20. Following this unanswered application, this time Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Saliha Aydeniz and HDP deputies Nuran İmir, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Erdal Aydemir applied to the Ministry of Justice on November 30.
THE VISITS OF THE CPT
Concerns, which increased with the unanswered applications, deepened with the visit of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture to Imrali Island in September. After the CPT announced that it had visited İmralı, Asrın Law Office announced that they had heard that their client Abdullah Öcalan had not met with the CPT.
HDP TAKES ACTION AGAINST THE SOLIDATION
The HDP also put the Imrali isolation and lack of information at the center of its resistance. The party's Central Executive Committee, which finally met on October 17, decided to take action against the critical situation in Imrali. HDP is taking action by preparing a comprehensive action plan with all its components for the operation of the law in Imrali and the provision of the visits of the lawyer.
HDP Co-Chair Tayip Temel, who puts the Imrali isolation system at the center of his struggle, evaluated the reflections of the lack of news in Imrali on society and politics, as well as the consequences it created.
