Penalty fines for Özgür Gündem news 'Child killers'

İSTANBUL - Editor-in-Chief of the closed Özgür Gündem Newspaper, Reyhan Çapan, was fined 50 thousand TL for not publishing a correction for the newspaper's article titled "Child killers".
 
The judgment hearing of the trial in which Reyhan Çapan, Editor-in-Chief of Özgür Gündem newspaper, which was closed with the Statutory Decree (KHK), was tried again on the charge of "not publishing the rectification and reply", based on the news titled "Child killers" in the newspaper's issue dated June 17, 2014, was held in Çağlayan. He was seen at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. While Çapan did not attend the hearing, her lawyer Özcan Kılıç was present.
 
REQUEST FOR ACQUISITION
 
His lawyer Kılıç reiterated his request for acquittal by reiterating the issues in the Supreme Court's case-law regarding refutation, stating that the crime charged against his client did not constitute the qualifications.
 
FINE
 
The court fined Çapa 50 thousand TL on the grounds that she did not publish corrections and replies in popular periodicals.
