ANKARA - While the hunger strike started by prisoners to ensure the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan spread, politicians demanded that the negotiation table established with Ocalan in Imralı be reestablished.
Hunger strike actions started by thousands of prisoners in prisons in the cities of Kurdistan and Turkey on November 27 are spreading. Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) Ankara Provincial Organization Women's Council member Ayşenur Dilan Karademir, Provincial Organization Manager Ramazan Karakoç, Çankaya District Organization Manager Mert Ömerbeyoğlu, Provincial Manager Hüseyin Gökoğlu, Murat Akşam and Devrimci Party member Enes Uğur Tekin started a hunger strike that will last for 5 days in Ankara Provincial Organization. A banner saying, "This red apocalypse, this torture, this blood, this patience, this stubbornness is just to insist on being human: the address of the solution is Imralı" was unfurled in the meeting hall.
'PAVE THE PATH FOR THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS'
DEM Party Provincial Organization Co-Chair Fatin Kanat stated that they started taking action to end the absolute isolation and reach a peaceful solution to the war that lasted for 40 years and said: “This support we offer will continue with different activities and processes. We declare that we will not give up on this process, and we invite those in power to pave the dialogue and negotiation process. We want you to end the absolute isolation in Imralı Island prison as soon as possible, open the island.”
'THERE IS ONLY ONE DEMAND'
Mêrdîn Deputy Kamuran Tanhan also said that they listened to the voices rising in prisons. Tanhan said: “The resistance going on in prisons today is a great resistance. There is only one demand: pave the way for dialogue and solution and abolish the isolation on Mr. Öcalan. This is a legal request. I also salute the watch carried out by our mothers on the Justice Watch. Kurd mothers have always built and grown the resistance. If there is to be a congratulation, if the Nobel Peace Prize is to be given, it should be given to Mothers for Peace, Kurd mothers. Because just as the young children, aged 20-25, who were murdered in the war, wanted peace, they too are following in the footsteps of this demand and leading this resistance. This insistence on peace comes from the history of Kurd mothers, the Kurds and their supporters. It is necessary to raise this voice, the voice coming from the dungeons to end the isolation of Mr. Ocalan must be hear.”
'WE WILL RAISE THE VOICE OF PEACE'
Agirî MP Heval Bozdağ also said, “There is a Kurdish issue in this country and there are millions who demand peace. The pioneers of society came together to create a democratic public opinion. These strikes that started in prisons were actually launched against unlawful acts. The isolation on Mr. Ocalan must be abolished and the path to negotiation must be paved. The Middle East has turned into a bloodbath. The demands of the comrades who voice their demands against these unlawful acts are not met, the needed vitamins are not given and isolation is imposed. Isolation within isolation is practiced. We will raise the voice of peace.”
'THE TABLE MUST BE SET UP AGAIN'
DEM Party Council Member Pakize Sinemillioğlu said: “Without forgetting Mother Taybet, without forgetting that Cemile Cağırga's body was kept in the refrigerator by her mother, peace must come to this country and the Middle East as soon as possible. For this, the path to negotiation with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan must be paved and the table that was overthrown must be re-established. The path to peace must be paved and we will be the winners, there will be peace.”
Politicians who started the hunger strike also stated that the dialogue process must be started with PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
