AMED - Reacting to the attacks of Turkey and the SNA against North and East Syria, "The Kurdish people want a status. This status is important for the peoples living in Syria" say Amed citizens.

Turkey and the Syrian National Army's (SNA) attacks on North and East Syria continue. The attacks are concentrated on Kobani and the Tishreen Dam in the vicinity. For 44 days, Turkey and the forces under its guidance continued their attacks and carried out attacks against civilians. On 8 January, more than 30 people were massacred in the attacks by Turkey on the vigil launced at the Tishreen Dam. Despite the attacks, the peoples of North and East Syria continue their vigil at the Tishreen Dam.

Citizens in Amed (Diyarbakır), protesting the attacks on North and East Syria, called on Turkey to end the attacks as soon as possible.

Zühre Azizoğlu, who came from the village of Îska in Afrin in 2011 when the war in Syria started and settled in Amed, reminded that her children had to leave their homes after the attacks. Zühre Azizoğlu said, "I got married in 1973. My husband was from Afrin. I lived there for a long time. I have 4 children. My children were there until Turkey attacked after the war.  After they entered Afrin, they too had to leave. They spoilt the demography of the place. Ninety percent of Afrin used to be Kurdish, but today there are very few left. Paramilitary forces entered our houses and looted them. We had the idea of staying and living there until they arrived. We had a village, a house and a barn. I still dream of going there. Kurds have been living without status for a hundred years and I say enough is enough. We should have status too. We want peace, equality and brotherhood. Today, civilians are being bombed in the attacks against Tishreen. They do not want Kurds to have status anywhere. They separated us from our homes, our lands, our children."

'THE WOMEN'S REVOLUTION IS WANTED TO BE SUFFOCATED'

Underlining that different peoples from Turkmens to Assyrians, Chaldeans to Arabs live together in North and East Syria, Zeki Alk said: "We see that the unity of peoples has created new paradigms in this new process. Especially the developments on the basis of democratic modernity disturb the powers that have interests in the region, especially the imperialist powers. The imperialist powers are afraid of the Rojava Revolution, which was realised by women. Because the slogan 'jin, jiyan, azadi (Woman, life, freedom)' has spread from America to Japan and India and has become a paradigm rather than a slogan. Therefore, stifling the developments in Rojava coincides with the interests of the regional and imperialist powers, especially Turkey. For this reason, attacks are intensifying. We want these attacks and genocide to stop. It is this war that causes the bankruptcy of Turkey's economy. Therefore, not only the war equipment, but also the bombings every day, the money paid to different segments of the population, adversely affect the economy in Turkey. Everyone is affected by this war. Only a handful of supporters of the government benefit from it. The peoples as a whole are affected. On the one hand, you will use the war with all its arguments, and on the other hand you will talk about the process. No result can be obtained from this situation."

Hülya Uğurlu said that peoples should be sensitive to the war in North and East Syria and added, "Let's protect the Rojava Revolution. We are really in a very important process. There are great attacks on the peoples. We condemn these attacks on the peoples and we do not accept this. The Kurdish people want a status. This status is important for us and for the peoples living in Syria. We want to establish and manage our own local administration. However, attacks and pressures on our people there have been going on for years. It still continues. We want this to end as soon as possible. We are with our people. We say peace, freedom and 'Jin, jiyan, azadî'."

'PEOPLES WILL WIN'

Reminding that Kobanê is the centre of resistance, Zeki Koç said that the people are subjected to massacres today. Noting that the peoples of North and East Syria are resisting at the Tishreen Dam in order to protect their lives, Koç said, "Only their action is not enough. Patriotic, Kurdish, revolutionary and democratic people should take to the streets wherever they are against massacres and attacks. We are also trying to make our voices heard wherever we are with these protests. Because only resistance can stop the attacks. The power of the peoples will surely prevail. We are also trying to contribute to this. The status that the different peoples living there will achieve through their struggle together will affect the whole of Syria. It will be a preliminary step to the formation of a democratic process."

Noting that the people of North and East Syria are being persecuted, Gülten Güler said, "Our people are under attacks there. They attack our people with UCAVs. We support them here today. Let their persecution end as soon as possible."
