DİYARBAKIR- SES Diyarbakir Branch Co-Chair Şiyar Güldiken said that chemical weapons cause heavy destruction not only on people, but also on the entire ecosystem, including water, soil and air, and it is necessary to oppose them.

It has been announced that Turkey has used chemical weapons and banned bombs 2,467 times in the war it has waged against the Iraqi Federated Kurdistan Region since April 17 and the chemical weapons and banned bombs caused 44 HPG members losing their lives. Reminding that chemical weapons affect not only people but also all living things and life, Health and Social Service Workers Union (SES) Diyarbakır Branch Co-chair of KESK Şiyar Güldiken expressed that the logic of states is full of wars against humanity, history, ecology and communities.

SADDAM ALSO USED THE CHEMICAL WEAPONS

Stating that the understanding of destroying humanity and history brings the use of many weapons, Güldiken said: “The use of chemical weapons is a crime against humanity in the world. It has caused world wars from past to present. It was used in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was also tried on the Kurds. For example, Saddam Hussein used them in Anfal and Halabja. Afterwards, there are facts that there are claims that it has been used many times, and demands for the investigation of these claims have been voiced many times, and the results are still not revealed today.”

'ECOSYSTEM IS DAMAGED BY CHEMICAL WEAPONS'

Emphasizing that chemical weapons have permanent effects on the entire ecosystem such as air, water and soil, Güldiken said: "Chemical weapons, which are contrary to international agreements, should be clarified by Turkey. No matter where chemical weapons are used in the world, they cause the same results that harm the ecosystem. In order to prevent this, the United Nations (UN) has made many international agreements in the name of protecting humanity and protecting the ecological nature, and almost all countries have signed it. They have promised that we will not use these weapons. The use of chemical weapons is not only limited to the moment, but also has consequences for the future by continuing its effect for many years. Kurdish people lived close examples of this. We are faced with a reality that Saddam Hussein used them in Anfal and Halabja, where thousands of people still have to continue their lives with injuries, and the ecology still hasn't been able to heal itself. We know that there are indications that there are still problems in the reproduction of individuals exposed to chemical weapons during and after that period. The whole world needs to reconsider its contracts to prevent the use of these chemical weapons. It should be protected in a way that befits human dignity.”

'ONLY WAY TO BE PROTECTED FROM CHEMICAL WEAPONS IS TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF IT'

Reminding that there are some protective measures such as gas masks against chemical weapons, Güldiken said: “There are many types of chemical weapons. The gas used in Halabja resembled the smell of apples and was not a visible substance. The only way to be protected from chemical weapons is to prohibit the use of weapons. Otherwise, if they are used, it will definitely leave damage. Humans can be a self-protecting creature, but the use of banned weapons also destroys ecological destruction. Preventive measures should be taken."
