ISTANBUL - Ecologist and journalist Hakan Tosun, who is being treated in intensive care, has died. While two suspects were arrested, his friends and journalism organisations stressed the need to expose the murder.
The doctors of journalist Hakan Tosun, whose treatment continues in intensive care at Çam and Sakura Hospital, informed that Tosun's brain death has occurred. Since 10 October, Hakan Tosun, who had not been heard from since 10 October, was found unconscious on the roadside due to a blow to the head and was reported to be under treatment for brain haemorrhage at Çam and Sakura Hospital.
HIS FRIENDS IN FRONT OF THE HOSPITAL: WHAT HAPPENED TO HAKAN TOSUN?
Upon hearing the news of Tosun's death, members and friends of the Climate Justice Coalition gathered in front of the hospital and demanded an answer to the question "What happened to Hakan Tosun?".
Climate Justice Coalition member Dr. Demet Parlar emphasised that Tosun had been the voice of nature, life defenders and those who were wronged for years. Parlar emphasised that attacks against climate activists should be prevented, security should be ensured in cities and impunity should end.
Lawyer Hakan Bozyurt, a member of the Association of Contemporary Lawyers (ÇHD), stated that there are serious deficiencies in the file and emphasised that two people have been arrested, but images and evidence are not in the file. His friends emphasised that they will continue their struggle for Tosun's death to be clarified and the perpetrators to be revealed.
Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) also issued a written statement and emphasised that Tosun's murder must be clarified.
FOOTAGE OF THE ATTACK HAS EMERGED
Footage of the moments Tosun was attacked was shared. In the security camera footage, it was seen that two attackers on a motorbike suddenly attacked Tosun. In the footage it was seen Tosun fell to the ground due to the blows he received and was then kicked by the attackers. In the video it was seen two people involved in the incident were taken out of the police station handcuffed behind their backs.
Making a statement on the issue, Istanbul Security Directorate announced that the suspects were arrested on 12 October.
