ANKARA – Responding to journalists' questions, Tuncer Bakırhan said: “The commission must go to Imrali Island as soon as possible and meet directly with the relevant person. It must hear Mr Öcalan immediately.”

 

Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, answered journalists' questions after his party's weekly group meeting.

 

When asked about Devlet Bahçeli's statement regarding the release of Selahattin Demirtaş, Bakırhan said, “We thank Bahçeli, he is absolutely right. All our friends on trial in the Kobanê Conspiracy Case, especially Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, must be released immediately.+

 

COMMISSION QUESTION

 

Responding to journalists' questions about the parliamentary commission's visit to Imrali Island, he said, “To resolve this century-old issue, the commission must go to Imrali Island as soon as possible and meet directly with the relevant party. The commission must listen to Mr Öcalan immediately.”

 

When asked whether the issue had been discussed with President Tayyip Erdoğan, he said, “Our delegation met with the President. Many topics were conveyed to him during this meeting. Most likely, this point was also conveyed to the President.”

 

MEETING WITH BAHÇELİ 

 

Journalists asked Ahmet Türk, the co-mayor of Mêrdîn Municipality who has been replaced by a trustee, about the possibility of returning to the municipality. Türk said that there was nothing definite at the moment regarding his return to the mayoralty and stated that they had requested a meeting with Devlet Bahçeli in the coming days.
