ISTANBUL - The mass gathered in mecidiyeköy is resisting to go to Taksim despite the police attack. 

 

With the call of the May Day Organising Committee, many unions and institutions wanted to enter Taksim Square for the 1 May Worker's Day. However, all roads leading to Taksim Square were closed as of 05.00 am local time and the square was blockaded with police barriers. 

 

The police did not give permission to those who gathered in front of Şişli Mosque to go to Taksim. May Day Organising Committee called for a mass gathering in Mecidiyeköy, but the police did not allow it. Upon this, the mass gathered with carnations in their hands and a banner reading "Taksim is for the People. Long Live May Day". The crowd started a sit-in protest.

 

The police attacked the mass at many points. Many people were detained.
