AMED – Ecologists, farmers, journalists, students, political parties and civil society organisations came together and declared the Amed (Diyarbakır) Ecology Assembly.
Necdet Sezgin, member of Amed Ecology Association, spoke first and explained the purpose of coming together. After the election of the council, a minute of silence was observed.
Ecologist Yıldırım Arslan shared the tasks and agendas of the assembly. Pointing out the importance of the announcement of the assembly, Arslan said, "Today we are leading the Renaissance in the Middle East. For this reason, theoretical studies should now meet with society".
Then the statute of the Amed Ecology Assembly was read by Semra Dağdelen, activist of the Ecology Association, and the assembly was announced.
In the text read, it was stated that the development of hierarchy and domination, the transformation of man, woman and nature into the sphere of power of the sovereign and the transformation of the state and class civilisation order has led to multiple crises on all ecosystems and assets, and it was emphasised that ecological and social destruction has been experienced especially in Mesopotamia in last years.
It was reminded that an “irreparable” destruction has been experienced with the dams built on the basins, Hydroelectric Power Plants (HES) and Solar Power Plants (GES) in the habitats. Stating that social crises cause ecological crises, it was noted that responsibility must be taken.
Emphasising that it is possible to achieve a "democratic, ecological, women's libertarian social structure" through radical environmentalist changes, the text reads: "'Freedom finds the opportunity to be realised in the individual's bond with society, especially in communal life.' In this respect, our ecological assemblies and communes can increase their power by uniting first with the commune assemblies in the Kurdistan geography and then with all peoples and freedom movements."
Stating that an ecological society must be ensured for peace, the text reads: “We are taking the first step towards and ecological and free Amed city, a democratic communal and nature-integrated society with a strong will here and together in the Amed Ecology Assembly.”
After the reading of the text, a cinevision on the struggle for ecology was shown.
